Choosing your engagement/couples photographer

When you think of choosing your engagement or couples photographer, choose someone you align with personally. Is their personality compatible with yours? Do you think you can feel comfortable learning how to pose in front of the camera. The reason so many of my couples sessions are so intimate + personable, is because I get to know who the clients are. And the goal is to not see them as just a client who I’ll never see again, but to build a foundational friendliness with the couples. Usually, it happens like this. I book an engagement session somewhere on the coast of South Carolina, we begin with some basic posing, like a hug from behind or creating some movement. Then, once clients feel comfortable in front of the camera, then I can start asking them, “hey let’s do a little vouge moment.” By the end of the session, we both usually agree… uhm, can we take some more photos?

This Charleston couples session was very similar to that usual approach of my photography sessions. Haley + Kyle, as videographers, aren’t typically in front of the camera but afterwards, they felt like pros and were very thankful for the experience!
